LiFE STORIES
The LiFE Stories below are a selection of glimpses into how LiFE Discipling is worked out in the varied ways among LDM Team Members and others involved with LiFE Discipling Ministries.
Jan McCuin (Newcastle)
Jan has been in more small groups – Bible study groups, home groups, project groups – than she’d care to remember.
Her discipleship group that she co-leads in her church is unique in a number of ways and is shaping her ideas of LiFE Discipling.
‘It’s clarifying for me what “living and discipling among the lost” means ... Two of the group were not believers when they first joined us. Through time in the Scriptures and the group’s love, witness and prayer they are both growing Christians now.’
This group is very honest and open with each other, helping close friendships develop. They like meeting weekly, sitting and having coffee together after the Sunday service and socialising with one another at other times. So a big part of the living and discipling amongst means taking time and being committed to one other.
Jan is National Coordinator for the IDC (Intentional Disciplemaking Church) Process and is involved in LiFE Discipling in Newcastle, where she lives. Jan is also the key link person between The Navigators and LICC (London Institute for Contemporary Christianity), especially in relation to the Imagine Project.
Moira & Rob Wood (Southampton)
Rob and Moira’s desire is to simply be with people and to walk that fine line of being ‘in the world, but not of it’.
On a social night out, a friend poured out his soul to Rob. Rob didn't know him well at that stage and he had just split up with his partner and was full of regrets, confusion and anger. After a while, he apologised and said he didn’t know what was causing him to reveal so much about himself. Rob reassured him and thought to himself, ‘I do … God is with us, my friend.’
Moira and Rob have a simple framework that guides their lives and ministry - PIMMS (Pray for the people and the place; Make an Impact with the gospel; Mentor individuals; Multiply spiritual labourers and leaders, and Study the Bible together and with others). They try to apply this LiFE Discipling Ministry through the four doors of Church, Workplace, Relational Networks and Community Involvement.
Rob and Moira live in Southampton where they have a specialist coaching & tutoring business NoClouds as well as work part of the time in a primary school and for the Careers Service at the University of Southampton. Rob is a trained Spiritual Director and serves on the Navigator National Prayer Team.
